florida shark diving

hello. we are team “anubis” victor zafiropoulos, babis plastourgos, dimitris vosios and we would like to welcome you to a new series of episodes that concern spearfishing and freediving. isn’t it scuba diving at night?i’m off… what the video will contain. from the side of fishing,

mixed techniques, with all speargun lengths and types of fish. the edible ones obviously…! catches with all the techniques with emphasis mainly on agguato. deep, impressive dives and catches. the best that we can… other than this,on the visual side there will be

information on the dive and thoughts of the diver during each shotwith graphical elements that aim to immerse the spectator deeper into what the diver is going through at the moment. a little bit like a video gameon one hand on the other hand something creative for the spectator.

also, we will be analyzing technical issues here at the studio. using some of the divesas examples, we will be presenting the gear and other useful tools we use and what role they played. we will also talk aboutthe physiology of diving and the medical issues that will be analyzedby the experts.

all of this will be translated in english and it’s duration will be approx. 30-40 minutes. we’ve said enough, let’s get to the action! let's start with our first shot. one big grey îœullet of 330 grams. spearguns equipped with3 or 4 power bands…

cool! 82 cm speargunand leerfish at 2 meters. leerfish 18kg, with 82cm speargun! in open waters right?not in a hole? can't get more open than that! he’s funny too... he didn’t tell me what happened... i asked them,

where are going filmingfor the weekend? where?...alright... i'm here in attikaclose to my house and boom! now besides the fun... let's talk little bit about this difficult catch and let me explain a little better. the shot was madewith this speargun,

82cm long, which uses reverse trigger, 6.5mm spear, short shaft and a pair of19mm power bands. this setup is common for fishingin the hole and was a drawbackfor this particular catch. also it has closed muzzle, so the spear doesn’t fall etc. i mainly use itfor fishing in the hole and fishing for seabasses.

on to the difficulties of this catch. as mentioned before the shaft is short. this means thatif it creates a big wound on the fish from the spear, it’s very easy for itto unhook and escape. the biggest problem i came across was that the fish came through to the nylon line.

as you can understand, without a second speargunon the buoy and my partner being far it was really hard to immobilizea giant of 18 kg. in other cases, having the fish come through the nylon line,is something good because it’s hard for the fish to ripand escape. in this particular occasion due to the size of the fish and

the shallow depth it was caught at worked against us. it was turning here and there and the only thing i could do was to try and to re-penetrate it with the spear from the inside in this waygetting it to stop moving. after some timei managed with a little bit of rodeo action,

but in the end all was good! the speargun worked finewith this type of shot since it was a short distance and it’s 19mm power band played an important role. the fish’s response was impressive since as soon as it was hitit switched directions immediately to leave… ...it was shocked!

since the shot was at a good place, i followed it through all it’s trail and was looking for the shaftnot to get caught somewhere so that things get more complicated. there's a good chanceit can get tangled somewhere with the spear and loose the catch. i think that anyone who has hadthe pleasure of making such a catch at such short depth and such a big fish, understands

the levels of adrenaline! looking at somethingthat could at any moment be lost from your sight! also in my attemptto grab it’s tail where all it's power is coming from, so i can immobilize it, my hand wouldn’t fit around it! it was too fat.

let's continue on and we’ll talk more in a bit with other interesting topics… using as an excusethe dive you just watched we’re going to focus a little on the currents. let's take a look at a shot. this is the boat's propeller just above the spot that we’re fishing,

which is turning from the currents. we’ll stay with this shot for a bit, so we can talk about how the currents affects our dives. sometimes it is in our favor but most times it is not… in the placesthat currents are strong we have to be very careful. safety is everything.

let's take a closer look at what happened there and what safety precautionsyou took under consideration before and during your dive. from the moment we droppedour anchor over the spot we scoutedwith our fish finder, we found thatthe intensity of the current was very strong. so the first thing we said

was not to leave our contactwith the boat. we were tryingnot to go far from it because it would be hardto return to it. it was also our reference point, inside and out of the water. for example, to return froma distance of 10-15 meters you have to swimfor at least 2-3 minutes.. now as far as the dive is concerned, we had to be continuously alert

and not push our limits. we shouldn’t allow a fish toenchant us. it’s better to cut a dive short and let our partnergo back down. in such circumstances it is verydifficult to dive, because you may surface somewhere farfrom where you begun. considering all this we decided not to follow

the big dusky grouper nor the white grouper that went into it’s hole, which would probably need a lot of strength to be pulled out. a good rule is to multiply the depth that you want to dive… the difficulty

that the current adsto a dive, is like doubling the degree of difficulty. for example... a 20m divewith a current strength of 2-3 knots, is equivalent to the difficulty of a dive to 35-40 meters. with 3 knots you can’t fish...

but we’re just giving itas an example. let’s continue onwith some nice shots and pray andwe’ll talk again later. what have we got here cowboys? a goldblotch grouper! it’s got nice colors at least… a goldblotch grouper was caught...praise the lord! thank goodness today. so guys, our first episode

is coming to an endsomewhere about here. we hope you liked itand found it interesting. don’t forget to subscribeto our channel because it’s very important to usto receive feedback and communication. please send us messages, reminding us of things we mayhave missed out, questions and other interesting topicsyou would like us to cover in the following episodes...

…what you didn’t like... babis!we’ll change him! we’ll bring a wigor maybe a girl..! that's all. happy holidays since we’rein holiday season. happy new year, dive safe, may we all beback here next year... dive safe guys!! be well!bye.
